Yamaha knows that people who ride motorcycles are not the same. One of the main dividing lines when choosing a motorcycle is styling. Some drivers are excited about a modern body with sharp, aggressive lines, while others prefer a retro look, which is what the 2022 Yamaha XSR900 has.

A few years after Yamaha launched the 2014 MT-09 (originally called FZ-09) naked sports bike, it released the XSR900. They share the same engine and chassis, but the XSR900 has a retro style inspired by Yamaha's XS750 Triple in the 70s, with round headlights, a traditional fuel tank with knee cutouts, and a handmade aluminum cover.

In 2022, the Yamaha XSR900 will receive an updated 890cc inline three-cylinder engine that powers the latest MT-09 and Tracer 9 GT, as well as a new chassis, more advanced electronic components, and a refreshed look from Yamaha’s 1980s classic Grand Appearance of Grand Prix racing machine.

"The new generation XSR900 borrows its high-performance CP3 engine, chassis and electronic equipment directly from Yamaha's extensively updated 2021 MT-09 Hyper Naked to create the lightest, most flexible, and most powerful motorcycle in its class," Yamaha Derek Brooks said the motorcycle product line manager. "But what really sets this new bike apart is its styling. As someone who is very familiar with the history of Yamaha racing, it is great to see that the design team clearly nodded to our past iconic racing designs while incorporating so much technology. And high-quality details. This new XSR really cuts into the core of our passion for motorcycles."

The motorcycles in the Yamaha Sport Heritage series, including the V Star 250 and Bolt R-spec cruiser, as well as the XSR700 (based on the MT-07 platform) and XSR900, are models that pay tribute to the tuning fork company for 70 years. Motorcycle design and engineering history. The design concept that Yamaha calls "Faster Sons" combines classic style with modern technology to produce new retro models that visually embrace the elements of the past while providing today's performance and reliability.

From the redesigned fuel tank to the boxy tail, the shape of the new XSR900 has leapfrogged its predecessor by ten years. Premium accessories include drilled front fork covers, machined headlight brackets, forged brake pedals, hidden passenger foot spikes, black control rods, dark brake reservoirs, rearview mirrors, embossed aluminum rear bottom plate and aluminum System XSR logo. The modern style includes full LED lighting and a brand new 3.5-inch TFT full-color display.

The Legend Blue color scheme is a modern interpretation of the classic French Sonauto Yamaha racing colors-the eye-catching blue, cyan and yellow colors were created by the legendary French Grand Prix champion Christian Sarron, which is Yamaha Rich An important page in racing history.

The revised ergonomic design makes the new XSR900 more aggressive. The lowered head tube position, unique subframe with lower seat height, and extended rocker arms are said to improve handling and provide riders with a better sense of control.

The updated 890cc CP3 engine can provide more power and torque, reduce weight, and speed more freely. The slip/auxiliary clutch has a new friction plate and an improved cam angle to reduce the load on the clutch spring to reduce the feel of the joystick, and now comes standard with up/down quick shifters. Yamaha Chip Control Throttle (YCC-T) now uses YZF-R1 accelerator position sensor handle (APSG), which replicates the varying degrees of resistance that traditional throttle feels.

The new compact and lightweight aluminum frame is made using Yamaha's Controllable Fill (CF) die-casting technology. The frame adopts 1.7mm ultra-thin section, which is lighter in weight, and the balance of longitudinal, lateral and torsional stiffness is improved. The lower head tube position also helps to load the front to increase the feel when turning.

The chassis adopts the new Brembo radial front master cylinder, which can provide a better controllability, and the new front brake lever can simplify the adjustability and improve the style. KYB has manufactured a new adjustable suspension with a fully adjustable 41 mm inverted fork and a rear shock with adjustable preload and rebound. Like the Tracer 9 GT (which won Rider's 2021 Motorcycle Award), the XSR900 uses Yamaha’s unique new swaging process to make 17-inch aluminum wheels, which can reduce unsprung weight, and uses Bridgestone Battlax Hypersport S22 Made of rubber.

The new 6-axis IMU supports an expanded electronic rider assist package, including a tilt-sensitive traction control system, a sliding control system, a front wheel lift control system, and a brake control system (also known as ABS). Each can be adjusted for different levels of intervention, or completely closed according to the rider's preferences. Cruise control is also standard.

Yamaha engineers carefully considered the intake and exhaust sounds when developing the new XSR900, and strive to emphasize and enhance the unique soundtrack of the cross-plane Triple. The new bellows contains ducts of different cross-sections and lengths, which have been adjusted to make the induced noise resonate harmoniously at different wavelengths. Two functional air intakes located on both sides of the fuel tank further enhance the mid-to-high speed-sensing sound transmitted to the rider for a better sense of acceleration. Similarly, the new 1.5-chamber exhaust pipe adopts a left-right symmetrical exhaust pipe arrangement, which can guide sound pressure to both sides of the machine, increasing the torque when opening the throttle. The low-suspension exhaust design also focuses on mass and is much lighter than the previous generation.

The 2022 Yamaha XSR900 will offer Legend Blue with gold wheels and gold fork tubes or Raven with black wheels and black fork tubes. It will arrive at the dealership in April 2022 with a suggested retail price of US$9,999.
